It doesn’t matter how enlightened you are, how successful you are, or how brilliant you are. It doesn’t matter if you live on the edge inviting challenge or tip toe through life protected by bubble wrap. Unexpected and unwanted stuff is still going to happen. The loss of a loved one, a frightening diagnosis, divorce, financial setbacks (can you say “market correction?”) — without exception, every single one of us will experience some scrapes and bruises through life.
The difference is in how we respond.
Life is like the ocean: You simply can’t stop the waves from coming in. Some waves will be mellow and gentle. Others will be huge and overwhelming. Your objective isn’t to eradicate those big waves. Your objective is to learn to ride those waves in such a way that you have a joyful ride in your life.
